In September 1999, American telephone company Bell Atlantic and UK-based Vodafone AirTouch PLC proposed to form a joint venture for new wireless services worth US$70 billion.This joint venture was  created as a result of the merger of Bell Atlantic and his GTE Corporation.

In January 2015,Verizon announced it would allow customers to opt out, and starting April 1, 2015,Verizon allowed customers to opt out online or by calling a special phone number.
